For the sixth year in succession, the City of Frankfurt has honoured the commitment of leading local figures who have dedicated their time and prestige to the cause of bringing congresses, conventions and similar  events to the metropolis on the River Main.

On Monday evening in the Commerzbank Arena, city councillor Markus Frank appointed two new Frankfurt Congress Ambassadors, not only congratulating Prof. Dr. med. Frank Kandziora, Chief Consultant of the Center for Spinal Surgery and Neurotraumatology at the BG Trauma Clinic Frankfurt am Main and Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Michael A. Rieger of the LOEWE Centre for Cell and Gene Therapy at the University Hospital Frankfurt am Main, but also thanking them for their commitment: "Both have proved to be important multipliers for Frankfurt am Main's convention business by championing its cause as a destination for such events and providing it with sterling representation within their networks. I am delighted that we have been able now to secure for our city the services of a total of 31 such ambassadors."

Added Thomas Feda, Managing Director of Tourismus+Congress GmbH Frankfurt am Main: "Our Congress Ambassadors bring participants from all over Germany and the world to our region. There are numerous examples that show that Frankfurt is very successful as a conference location and has enormous potential."

The economic importance of the conference and convention business to the city of Frankfurt am Main is enormous: some 74,000 conferences and conventions attract more than 4.5 million participants each year, resulting in more than 1.7 million overnight stays and generating a gross turnover of 815.7 million euros. Many industries such as the hotel, catering and retail sectors benefit from the expenditure of conference guests.

Prof. Dr. Frank Kandziora is a member of the board of the Wirbelsäulengesellschaft (or "German Society for Spinal Surgery") as well as current president of the EuroSpine Society.  His efforts have ensured that Frankfurt is now in the final round of consideration as the location for the EuroSpine Annual Meeting in which  approximately 4,000 are expected to participate.

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Michael A. Rieger is an active member of the German Cancer Research Center. Thanks in considerable part to his efforts, the 46th Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Society of Experimental Hematology was held this summer in Frankfurt. With over 500 participants, this turned out to be the best attended meeting of the Society in over 15 years.

The Frankfurt Congress Ambassador initiative is supported by Tourismus+Congress GmbH Frankfurt am Main through its Frankfurt Convention Bureau, Messe Frankfurt through its Congress Frankfurt department, and the Frankfurt am Main Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The aim of the project is to consolidate the position of the Main metropolis as a venue for scientific conventions. To this end, leading figures are enlisted to serve in a voluntary capacity as multipliers/ambassadors for the convention location Frankfurt am Main.
